Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOP)

The 40-hour course is designed for individuals involved in hazardous waste operations, where potential exposure to regulated hazards exist. The topics covered in the 40-hour HAZWOP course include chemical and physical hazard recognition, hazard controls, selection of personal protective equipment, air monitoring, respiratory protection, site control, decontamination, field-specific operations (drum handling, trenching and excavation, etc.) and an introduction to emergency response. Each student will receive a comprehensive course manual, reference materials and CD software containing industrial safety information to assist and complement job safety and performance. In addition, individuals who have been medically evaluated and present a physicians written opinion may bring their personal respirator and can be qualitatively fit tested. This fit testing is offered to meet the annual fit testing requirements. This class is not for emergency response training. For emergency response training refer to the Emergency Response section. Requires annual Hazardous Waste Operations Refresher (8 hour) to maintain certification.

Occasional Site Worker Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOP)

This course is for occasional waste-site workers working at fully characterized and monitored sites where exposure above established thresholds is not expected and air monitoring or use of respirators is not required. Emergency Response personnel holding a 24-hour HazMat Technician certificate can enroll in this class and receive a 40-hour HAZWOP certificate. Students must show proof of completion of a 24-hour Emergency Response (HazMat Technician) course. This class is not for emergency response training.
